Be a Solopreneur

I had a terrific conversation with Carly Ries and Joe Rando on The Aspiring Solopreneur Podcast about what it really takes to reinvent yourself in midlife and go out on your own.

The big takeaway: mid-career is not too late. In many ways, it is exactly the right time. By the time you are in your 40s, 50s, or beyond, you have a deep well of experience, relationships, pattern recognition, and hard-earned judgment.

The challenge is learning how to turn that history into a clear story, not apologizing for the twists and turns, but using them to define the value you bring now. We also talked about why solopreneurs need three things: a clearly defined superpower, a trusted “personal board of directors,” and a point of view that helps people understand what you stand for.

Because when you work for yourself, you are not just selling a service. You are asking people to trust your judgment, your integrity, and your ability to solve a real problem. One point I really wanted to drive home is that confidence usually comes last, not first.

Most people who start something new are scared. That is normal. The move is not to wait until you feel fully ready. The move is to get clear, take the next responsible step, and build confidence through action.

If you are thinking about going solo, or already there and feeling stuck, I think this episode will give you some useful perspective.

Give the episode a listen or watch when you get a chance.
