Redefining Age & Careers

In this episode of the Mainline Executive Coaching ACT podcast, I talk with Rich Baron and Michael Bailey about challenges and opportunities for mid-career professionals in this crazy job market. The first steps are to stop relying on resume submissions and, instead, to cultivate a referral Network that understands and supports your value proposition and can introduce you to like-minded colleagues who will go to bat for you.

Next, upgrade your definition of what you do and what you deliver. If you’re applying to the same type of job you just left (or lost), remember that they’re likely looking for someone younger and cheaper, and, sadly, less experienced than you.

Aim higher and use your close network/community relationships to help you craft that ideal job description that you want to articulate and promote to target companies. Don’t “wait for the phone to ring,” or expect that you’re going to land an interview by submitting a resume.
